HSBC Holdings (HKG:0005) has relaunched its search for a new chair after failing to finalize a shortlist from more than 100 candidates initially considered, the Financial Times reported Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Executives approached include Zurich Insurance Chief Executive Mario Greco, Goldman Sachs' Kevin Sneader and Richard Gnodde, and former Lloyd's of London chair Bruce Carnegie-Brown, the report said, adding that some declined or were unavailable.
The bank and London-based headhunters MWM Consulting have redoubled efforts by revisiting candidates dismissed in an earlier round before the board could meet them, according to the report.
Tucker's early resignation to join AIA in October has added urgency to the process, though insiders admitted the search had already been moving slowly, The Financial Times said.
Brendan Nelson is slated to take over as interim chairman on Oct. 1 as it renews its search for a permanent successor.
