Motorola Solutions unveils new features to boost transparency in public safety tech

July 24 (Reuters) - Motorola Solutions said on Wednesday it will introduce AI labels across its safety and security products, in a bid to increase transparency around the use of artificial intelligence in public safety and enterprise security.

The move aims to demystify how AI is used in its products using a table, resembling a nutrition label on packaged food, to offer details such as the type of tech deployed, data ownership and human oversight, as scrutiny over AI transparency and ethics intensifies globally.

Motorola Solutions said the labels will begin rolling out later this year across its portfolio, including body cameras, command center software and video analytics platforms.

The company makes radio communication equipment, 911 emergency call handling software, and body cameras that are widely used by law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and globally.

It has also expanded into video surveillance and data analytics, integrating them into its tools for public safety and first responders.

The labels initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to build trust in AI-powered tools that assist emergency responders and security personnel.

The labels will help users better understand how AI supports decision-making during high-stakes situations, where speed and clarity are critical, the company said.
