Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday Friday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.3%.

US equity indexes slipped in choppy midday trading on Friday, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite consolidating near record highs.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.5% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) shed 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) dropped as well.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 0.3%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) slipped 0.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was marginally up. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) added 0.1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was up 0.3%.

Commodities

Crude oil fell 0.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 0.2%. Natural gas rose 1.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 0.6%.

Gold was 0.4% higher on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) were 0.5% up. Silver gained 0.4%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was fractionally higher.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) dipped 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also in the red.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 0.6%, and VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were mixed, with the latter falling 0.1%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) shed 0.7%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also lower. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 1.4%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also fell.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, Bitcoin was down 1.1%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) fell 1.2%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) added 4.8%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) gained 0.8%.
