U.K. Communications Regulator Revises Mobile Network License Fees

The U.K. communications regulator said it was changing the annual license fees paid by mobile networks for using certain spectrum bands.

The Office of Communications said Friday that the revision would save mobile operators an estimated combined total of 60 million pounds ($80.5 million) a year.

The regulator said it would reduce the fees for 900MHz and 1,800 MHz spectrums, while increasing fees for the 2,100 MHz spectrum. The fees currently total around 325 million pounds a year and are paid to the U.K. Treasury.

"While the amount of money saved by each mobile network operator will vary because they hold different amounts of spectrum in each of these bands, all operators will benefit from these changes, strengthening their ability to invest in the U.K.," Ofcom said.
