Clariant AG, a specialty chemical company focused on sustainability, has announced its intention to contest a claim for damages filed by LyondellBasell in the Amsterdam court. The claim, amounting to approximately EUR 1.6 billion, pertains to alleged violations of competition law in the ethylene purchasing market, which were sanctioned by the European Commission in July 2020. Clariant firmly rejects these allegations, arguing that they have economic evidence demonstrating that the conduct in question did not impact the market. The company is prepared to vigorously defend its position in the legal proceedings.
