Union Pacific Corporation has announced a significant safety initiative in partnership with the California Highway Patrol to enhance rail safety across the state. The two-day Railroad Investigation and Safety Course (RISC), held at CHP headquarters in Sacramento, was designed to train officers to become subject matter experts in rail safety and enforcement. Led by Union Pacific's Buck Russel, alongside California Operation Lifesaver and a Class I railroad special agent, the program aims to educate officers on various aspects of railroad operations, including motorist behavior near tracks, officer safety, and investigation strategies. This effort is part of Union Pacific's commitment to community safety and the reduction of rail-related incidents through education and the establishment of a network of informed first responders.
