Exclusive: Ascot’s Bermuda reinsurance ops hires Ariel Re professional, casualty head O’Flynn

By James Thaler

July 3 - (The Insurer) - Ascot’s Bermuda reinsurance business has hired Ariel Re’s professional lines and casualty head Steve O’Flynn, reinsurance sources told The Insurer.

He will report to Ascot's head of casualty and professional liability Sean Ramlal.

Ascot and Ariel Re did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Bermuda-based O’Flynn has been at Ariel Re for the last six years. He previously spent nearly eight years with Tokio Millennium Re, latterly as head of Bermuda underwriting after joining the firm as head of professional lines. RenaissanceRe acquired Tokio Millennium Re in 2019.

O’Flynn also spent eight years with Allied World’s reinsurance operations and around eight years with Gen Re, where he started his career as a casualty facultative underwriter.

Ramlal was promoted to his role running casualty and professional liability treaty underwriting in 2023.

Last year, Ascot’s Bermuda CEO Ian Thompson moved to London to become CEO of the group’s London business, with Justin Keith then promoted to run the Bermuda unit.
