Uber Seen Benefiting From Growing Autonomous Competition -- Market Talk

1353 ET - As artificial intelligence boosts autonomous driving capabilities, competition in the space will heat up and shed light on the value of Uber's network, BofA Securities analysts say in a note. The ride share company's growing set of autonomous vehicle partnerships are off to a promising start, with nearly all of its Waymos getting more use than human drivers, the analysts say. That data show the long-term benefits of partnering with Uber, given a hybrid model can better manage sharp changes in ride demand compared to a fixed-supply autonomous vehicle network, they say. Uber's large and growing subscriber base should also help it negotiate with potential autonomous partners, they note. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
