Rio Tinto Group (ASX:RIO) ramped up its search for a new chief executive, according to a Monday report by The Australian, citing unnamed sources.

The mining giant is expected to replace Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm after its half-year results on July 30, with likely internal successors including its chief commercial officer, chief technical officer, iron ore chief, and aluminum head, the report said.

The new CEO will face immediate challenges, including repairing ties with the Mongolian government over Oyu Tolgoi and advancing the Simandou project in junta-led Guinea, per the report.

Rio did not immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
