FirstEnergy Corporation has issued a summer safety alert, urging the public to follow precautions to prevent power outages and ensure safety during outdoor activities. The company highlights the risk associated with foil balloons, which can cause outages if they come into contact with power lines due to their metallic coating. Recent months have seen more than a dozen such incidents within FirstEnergy's service area. The corporation advises securely tying balloons to a heavy weight and disposing of them properly by puncturing and deflating them. Additionally, the public is reminded to avoid flying kites or drones near power lines, keep electrical devices away from pools, and steer clear of downed wires, assuming they are live and dangerous.
