0918 GMT - Petronas is preparing for the scenario in which Malaysia imports more liquefied natural gas, says Muhammad Taufik Kamadjaja Aziz, president and group chief executive of Energy Asia. Malaysia's electricity demand is growing every year, fueling the need for LNG, he says at the Energy Asia conference. While Malaysia maintains its strong export capacity, especially in East Malaysia, Taufik says domestic gas supply may soon be outpaced by the growing electricity needs in peninsular Malaysia. "We can expect within the next four or five years, there is going to be growing dependence on LNG [imports]," he says. Malaysia relies heavily on natural gas for power generation as part of its pathway toward achieving its net-zero climate goals. (yingxian.wong@wsj.com)
