Centrus Energy Corp. has announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has extended its contract to produce High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) until June 30, 2026. This extension, valued at approximately $110 million, is part of a collaboration that began in 2019 to enhance America's uranium enrichment capabilities. Under this contract, Centrus will continue to produce HALEU at the American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, supporting the development of a new generation of nuclear reactors and establishing a U.S.-owned uranium enrichment capability. The Department of Energy holds additional options to extend production for up to eight more years, reflecting the strategic importance of this partnership for both commercial and national security purposes.
