Air India Plane Carrying 242 Crashes in Western India -- WSJ

An Air India plane carrying 242 passengers crashed near an airport in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad, Indian officials said.

It was unclear if there were any casualties, according to an officer at the state police. The plane, which was bound for the U.K., crashed shortly after taking off from the airport, the officer said. Local television channels showed heavy plumes of smoke rising into the sky.

According to flight-tracking service Flightradar24, the plane crashed "just seconds" after takeoff.
