Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation, has expanded its aircraft electrification capabilities with the establishment of a new engineering center of excellence in Wolverhampton, UK, and a production line in Colomiers, France. The Wolverhampton center will focus on developing next-generation electric thrust reverser actuation systems (elecTRAS) for commercial aircraft, while the Colomiers facility will handle final assembly, enhancing production efficiency and capacity. Collins Aerospace's elecTRAS systems promise to make future aircraft easier to maintain and more operationally efficient by reducing aircraft system weight by 15-20%, improving fuel efficiency and performance. Already in use on the Airbus A350 family, these systems have accrued significant in-service operational experience, totaling approximately 11 million flight hours and 1.8 million flight cycles. This expansion aims to strengthen Collins' global aircraft electrification capabilities and improve nacelle integration capacity.
