Amazon (AMZN) has eliminated nearly 100 positions in its books division, including at its Goodreads review site and Kindle units, the e-commerce giant told MT Newswires on Friday, confirming prior media reports.

"As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs operate more efficiently, and to better align with our business roadmap, we've made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles within the Books organization," a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Amazon eliminated fewer than 100 jobs in response to changing business needs, the company said, adding the overall size of the book unit will remain roughly the same, with several positions being repurposed in other parts of the division.

Employees affected in the shakeup will be provided internal and external job-search assistance, the company said.
