US Cash Grains-Soy and corn bids mostly flat-up, farmer sales stay slow

CHICAGO, June 6 (Reuters) - Spot soybean and corn basis bids were mostly steady to higher at U.S. Midwest processing facilities and river terminals on Friday amid a lack of selling by farmers, grain merchants said.

  • The soybean basis rose by 5 cents per bushel at a river terminal in Seneca, Illinois, and was unchanged elsewhere.

  • The corn basis fell by 16 cents at a grain elevator in Cincinnati, Ohio, and rose by 4 cents at an ethanol plant in Union City, Indiana.

  • "Farmer selling appears to be slow still and the soybean basis values at the processor are quiet," CHS Hedging said.

  • Farmers have largely finished planting corn and soybeans.

  • Mostly cloudy, humid weather and scattered showers were limiting late-season planting efforts in the Corn Belt, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a daily weather report.

  • The USDA on Monday is slated to issue weekly updates on corn and soy crop condition ratings.
