Teck Resources has been hit with technical problems at its operations in Chile but is sticking with its target for copper production this year.
The Canadian miner said a mechanical issue at its Carmen de Andacollo operations in Chile require a maintenance shutdown of the semi-autogenous grinding mill, which it estimates will interrupt production for about one month for repairs.
Teck said the operation will mitigate the effect of the interruption by rescheduling other planned plant maintenance to coincide with the mill downtime. It added that it doesn't anticipate a material production impact and that its earlier guidance for 2025 total annual copper production remains unchanged.
The company said it also faces an unrelated temporary outage of the shiploader at its Quebrada Blanca port facility in Northern Chile.
A preliminary estimate suggests that repairs to the shiploader will take about one month, though operations at the Quebrada Blanca mine and plant continue as normal and the operation has capacity to ship via alternative ports, Teck said. As a result, it doesn't expect material sales to be affected by the outage.
Teck, which has a portfolio of copper and zinc operations across North and South America, in late April affirmed a 2025 production target of between 490,000 and 565,000 metric tons of copper. It also expects zinc output of 525,000 to 575,000 tons and refined zinc production of 190,000 to 230,000 tons.
Copper production at Quebrada Blanca is forecast at the lower end of a range between 230,000 and 270,000 tons.
