908 Devices Inc., a leader in handheld chemical analysis devices, has announced the sale of eight XplorIR units to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments $(COG.UK)$. These devices, designed to swiftly detect and identify 5,000 types of gas and vapor chemical threats, are intended for use in emergency situations across the District of Columbia and the surrounding seven counties. The XplorIR devices were delivered in the first quarter of 2025, with training scheduled for the second quarter. The COG, which focuses on regional public safety and emergency coordination, sees the XplorIR as a valuable addition to its hazardous materials response toolkit, enhancing the ability of first responders to manage and contain potential threats effectively.
