UBS Looks Set for Turning Point -- Market Talk

0550 GMT - UBS could see light at the end of the tunnel, with an update on Switzerland's new capital requirements expected on Friday, Jefferies analysts say in a research note. Shares in the Swiss bank lost around $50 billion in relative market value since the regulatory change was first proposed in April 2024 and seem to discount a worst-case scenario, according to Jefferies. "There is a potential turning point on the horizon: we expect some initial clarity on capital matters on 6 June, though the legislative process is likely to be protracted and rules likely applied from 2028," the analysts say. Jefferies raises its recommendation to buy from hold and lifts its target price to 37 Swiss francs from 22 francs. UBS shares closed 0.2% lower at 26.13 francs on Monday.
