0929 GMT - Alibaba's efforts to expand the on-demand delivery business fits in with its overall strategy, Citi analysts say in a research note. The business, which includes Instant Commerce and Ele.me, reached daily orders of 40 million less than a month after accelerating promotional activity, according to the company. The Citi analysts note that "it makes sense to step up promotion to drive growth" in the on-demand delivery business by leveraging traffic on the Taobao platform. The spending is also aligned with existing investment into user acquisition, Citi says. There may also be further gains down the road in integrating traditional retail with the on-demand delivery business, Citi says. (tracy.qu@wsj.com)
