Footwear, Apparel Industries Thank Trump for Easing Tariff Stance -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
31 May

1446 ET - In a joint letter, footwear and apparel industry association groups thank President Trump for saying he is not focused on bringing production of sneakers and t-shirts to the U.S. "We agree that tariff policy cannot scale up a domestic footwear and apparel industry," with few sourcing locations capable of meeting the scale and cost demands of U.S. consumers, they say. The groups urge caution with imposing any new tariffs, arguing their industries have operated under the highest tariff burden of any sector. Any new tariffs "should not be stacked on top of these already elevated rates since that only conveys a cost burden to those U.S. consumers who can afford it least," limiting their participation in work and sports, they say.
