Ambarella boosted its full-year sales outlook after logging a narrower loss and higher revenue in the first quarter.

The Santa Clara, Calif., semiconductor-design company on Thursday said it now expects revenue to rise 19% to 25% to about $348 million for the fiscal year, up from its previous outlook for mid to high teens growth. Analysts polled by FactSet expect sales of $333 million.

The broader guidance range takes into consideration an uncertain geopolitical environment, Chief Executive Fermi Wang said.

For the current quarter, the company expects sales of $86 million to $94 million, ahead of the $84.7 million expected by analysts.

The outlook came after Ambarella posted a loss of $24.3 million, or 58 cents a share, in its fiscal first quarter, compared with a loss of $37.9 million, or 93 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were 7 cents, ahead of estimates of 4 cents a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue rose 58% to $85.9 million, above analyst estimates for $84 million.
