Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong (HKG:0215) will roll out 5.5G hotspots at major venues and expand network coverage across the Northern Metropolis as part of a next-gen infrastructure upgrade, the company said Thursday.

The CK Hutchison (HKG:0001) unit has activated 5.5G services at Kai Tak Sports Park, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and West Kowloon Cultural District. It also launched an AI system to monitor real-time user experience and optimize performance in high-traffic zones.

The move comes as Hutchison marks the fifth anniversary of its 5G services, with penetration reaching 54% as of December 2024.

To mark the milestone, the firm is offering limited-time promotions, including a free 12-month 5G upgrade for renewing 4.5G users, followed by an HK$8 monthly fee for the next year.

To meet growing data demand, Hutchison is also enhancing coverage at key transport corridors in the Northwest New Territories, including Tai Lam Tunnel and MTR Kam Sheung Road Station. The upgrades are expected to complete in phases from Q3 2025.
