Momentus Inc., a leading U.S. commercial space company, has announced a new contract with Portal Space Systems to provide hosted payload services for the inaugural on-orbit demonstration of Portal's advanced flight computer technology. Scheduled for early 2026, this mission will take place aboard a SpaceX Transporter mission to Low Earth Orbit. The collaboration aims to validate Portal's flight computer, avionics, and flight software in harsh space conditions, such as radiation and extreme temperatures. Momentus will carry this payload along with several others, including those from the U.S. Defense Department, on its Vigoride 7 Orbital Service Vehicle. This mission is crucial for de-risking and advancing space system technology, enabling more autonomous control for highly maneuverable spacecraft.
