Rio Tinto (RIO) and BHP Group (BHP) have cleared a legal challenge against their Resolution Copper project after the US Supreme Court on May 14 denied a rehearing petition from Native American group Apache Stronghold.

Apache Stronghold was seeking to block the transfer of Oak Flat, a federally owned land within the Tonto National Forest, to Resolution Copper.

Rio Tinto holds a 55% stake in Resolution Copper, while BHP owns the remaining 45% interest.
