May 27 - (The Insurer) - Insurance-focused investment bank Insurance Advisory Partners $(IAP.AU)$ has appointed former Willis chief executive Joe Plumeri to the newly created role of chairman, from September 1.
He will also become an investor in the firm, the company announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, IAP said that Plumeri's appointment as chairman and investor will "add considerable momentum" to the business, enhancing its ability to compete with major investment banks and advisory firms globally.
The appointment reunites Plumeri with IAP managing director and co-founder Tony Ursano, with the duo previously launching the Willis Capital Markets & Advisory unit in 2009.
As chairman and CEO of NYSE-listed broker Willis Group Holdings, Plumeri had pursuaded Ursano to leave his role as vice chairman of the financial institutions group at Bank of America to run corporate development and strategy at Willis.
Other previous roles held by Plumeri include a two-year tenure as CEO of Citibank, North America, as well as chairman and CEO Primerica, vice chairman of Travelers, and president of Smith Barney.
Last month, insurance-focused boutique investment bank IAP expanded its London office with the appointment of Benjamin James as partner.
