Italy - Factors to watch on May 28

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Wednesday.

POLITICS, ECONOMY

Italy's main business lobby Confindustria called on Tuesday for billions of euros of state aid to help firms cope with high energy costs and the prospect of U.S. trade tariffs.

DEBT

Italy raised 3.14 billion euros from its new 7-year inflation-linked BTP Italia bond, indicating solid demand on the first day of the offer, Milan bourse data showed on Tuesday.

Retail offer for the bond due June 4, 2032 continues on Wednesday and ends on May 29, unless the Treasury opts for an early closure. On May 30 the offer is reserved for institutional investors.

Treasury sells 6.5 billion euros 6-month BOT bills. Subscriptions close at 0900 GMT.

COMPANIES

The automaker has appointed Italian Antonio Filosa as its new chief executive, Stellantis said in a statement on Wednesday.

The United States has warned Pirelli that sales of vehicles fitted with its data-collecting technology could be restricted due to concerns over the influence on the tyremaker of its Chinese investor, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

(*) The Italian government has no intention of imposing new conditions on Pirelli's Chinese shareholder as part of its so-called "golden powers", La Repubblica daily reported on Wednesday, citing government coalition sources.

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI, GENERALI GASI.MI

UniCredit Chief Executive Andrea Orcel ruled out on Tuesday that his bank could make a play for Assicurazioni Generali, Italy's biggest insurer, in which it has recently acquired a 6.7% stake.

The government may slightly soften the "golden power" conditions it has set on the UniCredit-Banco BPM deal as regards to the request for UniCredit to keep the level of Banco BPM's loans in relation to deposits unchanged for five years, La Repubblica wrote on Wednesday, citing government sources.

The paper also said the Forza Italia government party is insisting on changes to the request for UniCredit to halt operations in Russia, but Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti is against any modifications.

Three companies based in the United Arab Emirates have approached the Italian Treasury putting forward a proposal to buy at a steep discount the Russian operations of UniCredit CRDI.MI, a source with knowledge of the matter said.

The Italian construction group said on Wednesday it was awarded a contract by the Western Australia Government worth 1.8 billion Australian dollars ($1.16 billion) to build a Women and Babies Hospital in Perth, Australia.

The ISS proxy advisor is recommending Mediobanca shareholders to vote in favour of the bid for Banca Generali.

Moody's on Tuesday raised the rating to 'Ba1' from 'Ba2' and confirmed the positive outlook.

Moody's on Tuesday upgraded the outlook to 'positive' from 'stable'.

TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) TLIT.MI

Italy's Supreme Court said on Tuesday more checks were needed to assess whether Telecom Italia had properly filed a claim for a refund of 1 billion euros ($1.14 billion) from the Italian state in a dispute over licence fees stemming back to 1998, sources told Reuters.

TIM's shares slid on the news, closing down 2.17%.
