Millicom said it agreed to acquire the Uruguay operations of Telefónica in a deal with an enterprise value of $440 million.
Millicom said the acquisition of Telefónica Móviles del Uruguay will strengthen its presence and scale across South America. The acquisition will also diversify Millicom's cash flow in Uruguay, the company said.
Millicom anticipates immediate scale benefits, enhanced synergies, and long-term value creation once the deal closes.
Shares of Millicom hit a 52-week high of $37.09 on Wednesday, and closed at $36.68. After hours, the shares are basically flat, trading at $36.65.
Millicom provides fixed and mobile telecommunications services in Latin America.
