Rio Tinto CEO Leaving Is a Big Surprise, Berenberg Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

0816 GMT - Rio Tinto's announcement that chief executive Jakob Stausholm will step down later this year is a big surprise, Berenberg analysts write. The miner did not give a reason for the departure other than that now was a "natural moment" to change leadership--something which the analysts contest. It was Berenberg's view that Stausholm would drive the integration of Arcadium Lithium, they write. Chief Executive of Australia, Kellie Parker, Finance Chief Peter Cunningham and Chief Executive of Minerals, Sinead Kaufman, are expected to be linked to the role, they add. Rio Tinto's London-listed shares trade down 0.2% at 4,642.5 pence. (adam.whittaker@wsj.com)
