TJX Will Adjust Prices in Tandem with Traditional Retailers -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
22 May

1251 ET - T.J. Maxx owner TJX will ensure that there is always a gap between its prices and those of its traditional retail competitors, and if those retailers choose to raise prices to offset tariff costs, "we will adjust our retails to preserve that gap," CEO Ernie Herrman says on a call with analysts. That could mean prices go up on certain items, the CEO says, or down if other retailers drop their prices. That has always been TJX's approach to pricing, Herrman says. He adds that pressures from the tariff war are an opportunity for TJX to improve its inventory buying. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
