L3Harris Technologies Inc. has commenced the construction of five new solid rocket motor facilities in Virginia, aimed at enhancing production capacity to support vital national defense initiatives. This expansion, supported by a Defense Production Act Title III cooperative agreement, includes a 12,000 square foot, state-of-the-art solid rocket motor cast and assembly facility, along with new control rooms and upgraded testing capabilities. The new facilities will feature modular factory design, robotic flex cells, and automated casting to streamline production. The move underscores Virginia's strategic importance in the defense sector, as emphasized by Governor Glenn Youngkin, and aligns with broader efforts to revitalize the defense industrial base. Additionally, L3Harris is modernizing and expanding its operations in Camden, Arkansas, and Huntsville, Alabama, to further bolster its solid rocket motor production capabilities.
