Group 1 Automotive Inc. has successfully acquired Mercedes-Benz of South Austin, a dealership previously owned by Jeff Swickard of Swickard Auto Group. This strategic acquisition enhances Group 1's presence in the Austin area, complementing their existing ownership of Mercedes-Benz of Georgetown. The transaction aligns with Mercedes-Benz USA's preference for dealers to own multiple stores in the same market. The sale was facilitated by Haig Partners LLC, a leading advisory firm for auto dealerships. This move is expected to bolster Group 1's portfolio, which already includes 263 auto dealerships and 39 collision centers across the US and the UK. Jeff Swickard expressed confidence in Group 1's stewardship of the dealership and stated that his focus will now shift towards expanding in core markets such as California, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Hawaii.
