Phillips 66 (PSX) will start laying off most employees at its Los Angeles facility in December, Reuters reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The company previously said it would begin shutting down the plant in October, with job cuts to follow two months later.
According to the report, roughly 600 employees and 300 contractors work at the site, more than half of whom are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
Some workers will be reassigned to the company's nearby marine oil terminal, Reuters quoted the sources as saying.
The facility is one of two major California refineries set to close, with Valero also planning to shutter its 145,000-bpd Benicia site, the news outlet added.
Phillips 66 did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
