Nippon Steel (TYO:5401) remains dedicated to its full acquisition of US Steel, according to Reuters News, citing Vice Chairman Takahiro Mori in a recent interview.

The Japanese steelmaker is seeking a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to understand President Donald Trump's current position on the proposed $15 billion merger, said the news wire.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) faces a May 21 deadline for its renewed national security review, after the deal was previously blocked by former President Joe Biden, added the report.

Trump, who directed the reassessment in April, is expected to make a final decision by June 5, said the news wire.
