Charter's Cox Takeover Dashes Hopes of Altice, Cable One Acquisitions -- Market Talk

1834 ET - Charter Communications' plans to takeover Cox Communications merges the company with the best in the business, Raymond James analysts said in a research note. The FCC and Justice Department appear open to cable mergers, so the deal should go through without a hitch, but investors looking for Charter to acquire Altice or Cable One will need to dial back such hopes, the analysts said. It's unlikely the company would undergo two major transactions at the same time, and given the Cox assets are an option, it's not surprising the company would choose this strategy over the others, the analysts said. "Cox has always been held up as the gold standard in the industry," they said. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
