Food Delivery Platforms Race to Cash in on Eating Out -- Market Talk

1332 ET - Food delivery platforms appear to be expanding their scope beyond just eating in, helping consumers get--and get to-their restaurant reservations. During its annual product event, Uber shared more details around its OpenTable partnership, including a new "Dine Out" section in its Eats app that helps users book reservations. The partnership also gives discounts for rides to reservations booked with OpenTable, and lets users apply OpenTable loyalty points on Uber. The offerings come after DoorDash recently agreed to acquire reservation platform SevenRooms. Uber's deal could help offset that competition, and will also let the platform and its partners better track usage across channels, Bank of America Securities analysts say in a research note.(kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
