Intel (INTC) and Shell's (SHEL) global solutions division have partnered to develop a new immersion cooling system for the chipmaker's fourth- and fifth-generation Intel Xeon processors for use in data centers, the companies said on Tuesday.

Shell's immersion cooling fluids are the first to receive official certification from a major chip manufacturer, allowing its products to be used at data centers worldwide, the companies said.

Intel and Shell are also exploring future collaboration opportunities to certify Intel's next-generation processors for use with Shell fluids, they added.

Intel shares were up 2.7% in recent Tuesday trading while Shell shares were fractionally higher.
