GE HealthCare Technologies (GEHC) said Tuesday the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a pediatric indication for its Optison ultrasound enhancing agent.

The regulatory approval will help improve the clarity and accuracy of echocardiograms in children to allow cardiologists to diagnose heart conditions, the company said.

Optison was approved for adults in 1997 and this latest approval affirms its safety and efficacy in pediatric patients "of all ages," GE HealthCare said.
