HSBC Buys Back Nearly 5 Million Shares

HSBC (HKG:0005) bought back a total of 4,970,458 shares on Monday, according to a Tuesday disclosure with the Hong Kong bourse.

The lender repurchased 2,588,458 shares in the UK for a volume weighted average price of 8.8082 pounds sterling apiece and 2,382,000 shares in Hong Kong for about HK$88.6313 per share.

HSBC has repurchased 28,528,002 shares for $321.7 million since the current buyback program started May 6.

Following cancellation of the repurchased shares in the UK, the bank will have 17,638,348,535 ordinary shares with voting rights.
