Permian May Rival Virginia as Data-Center Hub -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
16 May

1653 ET - The Permian Basin, more known as a booming oil field, may surpass Northern Virginia as a data center hub, says David Capobianco, CEO of the private-equity firm Five Point Infrastructure. "We could literally create a hub in West Texas that can be massively built in excess of even the largest collection of data centers in [Northern] Virginia." He points to the Permian's large area as well as access to fiber networks, power sources and water produced from oil wells, which can be used to cool data-center equipment. Houston-based Five Point has backed several companies dedicated to support infrastructure development in the region. Those businesses include property manager LandBridge, water infrastructure operator WaterBridge and PowerBridge, a developer of data-center locations. (luis.garcia@wsj.com)
