Up ahead, investors will scrutinize housing-starts data, due at 8:30 a.m. ET, and a first readout on consumer sentiment for May from the University of Michigan. Economists expect a modest pickup from April, when concerns about trade, jobs and prices fed into one of the gloomiest readings in the survey's decadeslong history.
