Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Advance After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 3.5%.

US equity indexes soared after the US and China reached a deal to reduce tariffs, easing concerns that an all-out trade war between the world's two largest economies would underpin inflation and hurt growth.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were each up 2.3%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 4.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) each added 4.3%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) advanced 8.3%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 7.6%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 1.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 5.4%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), declined 5.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil was 2.1% higher, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 2.3%. Natural gas lost 3.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was down 3.4%.

Gold declined 3.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) shed 3.2%. Silver was down 0.8%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 1.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also declined.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 4.7%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was up 1.7%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose 5.5%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) climbed 2.4%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also rose. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 4.9%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) added 2.7%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also advanced.
