All eyes will be on Switzerland this weekend when senior officials from the U.S. and China are due to discuss trade issues. The fallout from that meeting will set the tone for markets next week, with investors preparing to digest further trade developments, new inflation data and corporate earnings from companies including Walmart. Here's the daily detail:

This Weekend

-- Tariff Talks: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are slated to meet Beijing's lead economic representative in Switzerland, potentially de-escalating tensions and leading to further talks.

Monday, May 12

-- Federal Reserve Speakers: Fed governor Adriana Kugler speaks on the economic outlook.

-- Earnings: Fox Corp reports before the bell, with Hertz and Simon Property following in the afternoon.

Tuesday, May 13

-- Economic Data: April CPI data is due at 8:30 a.m. ET. The year-over-year inflation reading is expected to come in at 2.3%, slightly lower than March's report.

-- Earnings: Under Armour reports results before the bell.

Wednesday, May 14

-- Earnings: Cisco Systems reports earnings after the bell.

-- Fed Speakers: Governor Chistopher Waller and Vice Chair Philip Jefferson are due to speak.

Thursday, May 15

-- Fed Speaker: Chair Jerome Powell is expected to give remarks around 8:40 a.m.

-- Earnings $(AM)$: Walmart, Deere & Co.

-- Economic Data: April PPI data and retail-sales data are expected at 8:30 a.m. ET. Also due in the morning is industrial production data.

-- Earnings (PM): Applied Materials, Take-Two Interactive

Friday, May 16

-- Economic Data: Housing starts are expected at 8:30 a.m., followed by University of Michigan preliminary consumer survey data.
