Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) said Friday it launched trading of EU Carbon Allowance 2 futures this week, tied to the EU's upcoming ETS2 carbon market.

The company said the new contract began trading May 6, with an initial trade totaling the equivalent of 5,000 EUA 2 allowances.

The EU's emissions trading system, or ETS2, set to launch in 2027, will cover emissions from buildings and road transport, expanding EU carbon market coverage to 80% of the economy, it added.
