Emergent BioSolutions signed an agreement worth around $65 million to supply the Ontario Ministry of Health with Narcan nasal spray.

The contract will last a maximum of three years and supports the ministry's Ontario Naloxone Program, Emergent said Thursday.

The program will distribute Emergent's Narcan nasal spray, which aims to reverse the effects of an opioid poisoning in minutes, across Ontario to individuals at risk of opioid overdose and their friends and family through public health units, outreach programs, hospital emergency departments and urgent care, among other organizations.

Emergent has worked with the Ontario Ministry of Health to provide access to the spray across the province since 2018, the company said.
