Cheesecake Factory reported an increase in revenue and same-store sales as the restaurant company improved its labor costs and expanded its margins.
The American dining chain reported a first-quarter profit of $32.9 million, or 67 cents a share, compared with $33.2 million, or 68 cents a share, a year earlier.
The results included $17.3 million in expenses related to a loss on extinguishment of debt, items related to its acquisition of Fox Restaurant Concepts and other charges.
Excluding one-time items, per-share earnings were 93 cents, above the 81 cents per share that analysts were expecting, according to FactSet.
Revenue rose to $927.2 million from $891.2 million a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast sales of $926 million. Same-store sales at the Calabasas Hills, Calif.-based company's namesake brand rose 1%.
The company still expects to open as many as 25 restaurants this fiscal year, including three or four Cheesecake Factory locations and six to seven North Italia and Flower Child locations, each.
