Yum China Posts 2% Increase in Q1 Net Income; EPS, Revenue Miss Estimates

Yum China Holdings' (HKG:9987) net income increased 2% year on year in the first quarter of 2025 to $292 million from $287 million, the company said in an after-market hours filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Wednesday.

Earnings per common share rose 8% to $0.77 from $0.71. Analysts polled by Visible Alpha estimated EPS to come in at $0.80.

Total revenue for the three months ended March 31 rose 1% to $2.98 billion from 2.96 billion a year ago as company sales reached $2.80 billion compared with $2.79 billion a year earlier. Analysts polled by Visible Alpha estimated revenue to stand at $3.11 billion.

During the quarter, the restaurant operator opened 247 new stores, of which 62 were opened by franchisees. Store count totaled 16,642 as of end-March, including 11,943 KFC stores and 3,769 Pizza Hut stores.

Looking ahead, Yum China aims to open 1,600 to 1,800 new stores, with expenditures ranging from $700 million to $800 million for the 2025 fiscal year. The company also plans to return $3 billion to shareholders in 2025 through 2026.
