Videogame players are going to have to pay a lot more for Xbox consoles this Christmas.
On Thursday, Microsoft announced it is raising prices for Xbox consoles and controllers effective right away. "We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development," the company said on its website.
The price of an Xbox Series X 1TB console will rise by $100 from $499.99 to $599.99. The company also said some of their first-party games this holiday will be priced at $79.99 versus the current $69.99 price.
Early last month, Nintendo delayed U.S. preorders of its highly anticipated Switch 2 console because of market uncertainty over President Donald Trump's tariffs. Two weeks later, the company said it would maintain the previously announced $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console. The Switch 2 will be released on June 5.
In April, Trump had announced so-called reciprocal tariff rates on goods from dozens of countries, including elevated rates on goods from China and Vietnam. Videogame console companies primarily manufacture them in Asia.
