Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 2.4%.

US equity indexes rose as technology led the sector charts amid declines in government bond yields after midday on Thursday.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added about 1.8% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 3.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also advanced.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 6.3% higher, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 5.8%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 1.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 3.5%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 3.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 0.9%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.7%. Natural gas dropped 3.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 1.9%.

Gold rose 1.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 1.1%. Silver dipped 0.2%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 0.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 1.5%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) added 0.4%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose 1.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 1%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also rising. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 1.1%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) climbed 2%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also moved higher.
