Japan and the UK will sign their first pact on quantum technology on Monday, aiming to set global standards and boost cooperation in a field dominated by the US and China, Nikkei reported Friday.

The deal will include joint research, startup collaboration, and technical exchange between national institutes. It also launches a policy dialogue focused on security and supply chains, according to the report.

The UK ranks second behind the US in private quantum investment, the report said.

Japan committed over 330 billion yen from 2020 to 2024 to advance its quantum sector, with similar pacts already signed with the US and Denmark, according to the report.
